Home Business Savvy - Simple Strategies and Resources For Building Your Business
Betsy L. Shulman
If you are considering starting a home business on the Internet, or feel frustrated with the progress of your
current business, you may need to re-evaluate your approach.
Building a home business on the Internet requires learning new skills. There's no way around it. So becoming a
learner is the first skill you need to acquire if you want to get fast results from your home business. Every home
business owner needs to develop a set of good working habits, a positive mindset, and a results oriented set of
actions that build their network marketing business daily. Habitual action is the motor that drives productivity.
(Hint: Read that last sentence again!)
Once you set your goals, you'll want to work backwards and break them down into tasks. At this point it is wise
to take an inventory of your personal skill sets and the tasks you like doing versus those you don't. Then find
ways to capitalize on your strengths, and hire someone else to help you do the things you need help with. (Or
simply don't want to do!)
As a creative person (I'm a visual artist) I need help staying focused on tasks and getting them finished. I see
the big picture very clearly, and I have clear goals, but I get caught up in minutia, or distracted by technical
platforms that are beyond my knowledge. To remedy this I have a 'point person' who has helped me to develop a task
list for my network marketing business with both long and short-term goals and ideas for meeting those goals.
I also work with a coach to keep me focused on the immediate needs of my home business each week. Once I see the
direction I need to go, I race forward with the training and tasks at hand. This is where my creativity is useful.
I have fun writing articles and blogs, making videos, and composing clever copy for text ads to market my online
business. When needed, I go to Elance to hire individuals for specific technical tasks that I can't do myself.
There will always be hurdles to overcome as you develop a business on the Internet. For me, acquiring the
technical skills needed to run an Internet based business was huge. But I also had to avoid fighting against
myself. I evaluated where I needed help, and then went out and got it! Success will come when you decide to build
on your strengths and don't let your weaknesses hold you back. Delegating tasks is a great way to get more done in
less time and allows you to focus on what you do
best.
The great thing about Internet marketing is that there are so many resources available to help you reach your
goals. (There are even courses that teach you how to be more productive, like Eban Pagan's 'Wake Up Productive.')
Your job as a home business owner is to market your business systematically based on a business plan that gives you
results. Then take massive action daily to get the results you seek. So don't let anything stand in your way. Your
strengths will carry you through if you don't let your weaknesses stop you!
