The age old question of how to make some extra money at home is not always answered by starting a home business, but utilizing a few simple techniques to get going.

First you need to develop a topic or an idea. This generally can come from just about anywhere. What are your favorite pastimes? What do you like to do when you aren’t working? Do you have a hobby? Is there some area of expertise that you have that’s noteworthy? Is your knowledge of car repair strong? Are you a classic movie buff? Getting the picture? You can create a niche blog out of just about anything. The reason for a blog than a traditional website is that there isn’t any software to buy. You can get a Blogger blog or a WordPress blog for zero $ layout.

The next item is to populate the blog with information, such as articles and comments. If you can write then it’s fairly simple. Write several short 300-400 word articles about your topic and post. If you don’t write that’s not a problem either and it may be a better solution for you if you arrange to have niche articles sent directly to your blog. This simple as you can use an article service to provide dozens, hundreds or thousand of article about your topic directly to your site. I recommend using Unique Article Wizard, it’s a simple and reliable service to get articles from. Unique Article Wizard provides free articles to your site and has a plug-in that you can put on your WordPress blog to generate the article flow.

You can also join Unique Article Wizard’s service and write your own articles and have UAW spin them into hundreds of different articles and submit them to appropriate article directories advertising your blog. They even have a partner that will write articles for you, on any given topic , and put them into the Unique Article format for you.

Now about making money. Once you have put up your blog and you have articles streaming in to your site it’s time to monetize your blog with advertising. The simplest way is Google Adsense of course. AdSense ads are those ubiquitous text and image ads you see on websites. In addition to Adsense you can find other affiliate programs to advertise as well.

Making money doesn’t happen overnight and it does take some time for it take place. Once you have familiarized yourself with the blogging process you can branch out and create your own blog empire. It’s fun and financially rewarding.

Never did and I suspect never will although if they did I can assure you that it would be worth while. I’m sure you are tired of seeing so called “free” ways to make money from home that turn into some type of scam or prompt to spend more money when you sign up. This is not one of those offers. Back to Twitter. The purpose of your Tweeter account is to promote your site. If you don’t know what Twitter is it’s most easily explained as a live instant blogger. Twitter posts must be 140 characters or less, so they must be succinct. Your posts can have a url back to your blog. You will need to have a your URLs shotened to fit within the 140 character limit. You can find a free service at Mashable. Twitter is so hot right now that it’s the perfect time to start “Tweeting.”

There you have it, a foolproof, free and easy way to start making money at home.

One of the major benefits in using Google as a partner on your site is the amount of information they provide to you in support of their programs.  A good example is a recent blog post on the Google Custom search box.

Google recommends using their search box for added revenue on your site.  A few weeks back Google announced improvements in their search feature allowing greater control over site customization.  Utilizing the custom search engine is a sure way of increasing total revenue on your site.  Their recommendations for maximizing your site revenue are:

1. Always place search boxes in highly visible or easy to find locations.  In this way your readers will have quicker access to finding information on your site.

2. When possible add two search boxes to long pages to provide easy access to search functionality.  This works particularly well with pages that need to be scrolled.

3. Host your search results on your own site.  This recommendation makes sense because if you want to create simple navigation within your site, utilizing your own template and containing the search results on your own pages works really well.

4. Add a search box to your search results pages.  This makes a lot of sense because if the results of the search didn’t meet your viewers expectations they have the opportunity of performing additional searches.

5. Customize your ad locations.  If you follow the logic in item #3 above then this will make sense to you, because you can easily add your own advertising to your search results pages.

Some of my own thoughts are to try and integrate the look of the search engine results to mirror your own template.  This adds to the overall customization of the search results pages and also improves readability and flow.
