There are so many things in the world which we are grateful for which stemmed out of taking a risk. For instance, the first open heart surgery proved that lives could be saved, and heart attacks can be avoided. However, a risk had to be taken in order to find out whether or not this was possible. Nowadays, many people live on as a result of a decision to take a risk. Entrepreneurs need to adopt a mentality that it is good to take calculated risks in order to make money at home.

While the entrepreneur is not faced with nearly as difficult a decision as those mentioned above, imagination and courage is required to make money at home. I was just thinking the other day how easy it is to start a home enterprise from a hobby. For example, if you play an instrument, such as a guitar, and you are fairly good at it. You might think about starting a website about learning how to play the guitar. It’s pretty easy to put together videos and either burn them into DVDs or stream them over the Internet. Guitar lessons lend themselves to video more so than other instruments because you can show precise finger placement on each fret. You can then superimpose graphics or text on each note to demonstrate how each chord is composed. I know it sounds a lot easier than it really is but the guitar like the piano lends itself to visual illustration better than other instruments.

Photography is another hobby that can easily lend itself to recorded discussion and illustration making a video an easy way to sell lessons on the subject. For example you could easily concentrate on a photography course for amateur photographers who use only point and shoot cameras. Your course could focus on composition, something not everyone knows or understands about photography.

Take just about any pastime that you have a passion for and turn it into extra income. That’s the great thing about the Internet it offers an endless supply of new opportunities utilizing skills that we already have.

As we know the economy is slowly turning around and perhaps we haven’t hit bottom yet.  I don’t want to perpetuate gloom and doom but I tink we have a way to go yet.  This brings me to the topic at hand, scams.  In a bad or recovering economy the woods are filled with scam artists preying upon you at your weakest moment hoping that they can pry every dollar you have out of your hands and into theirs. They really don’t care if you really can’t afford it or not.  Their appeal is usually emotional. Stories about how they were on food stamps and dicovered the magic formula for getting rich. And they aren’t bashful either.  I saw one the other day claiming that he made up to $100,000 per day!

How could this be? What does he know that I don’t.  Well for one the best defense is common sense.  If it sounds too good to be true, it most likely is. Sage advice from someone who has fallen for some of these get rich quick schemes before.  I’ve tried them all and not one ever worked. The only thing that actually did work was hard work and perseverance.

This article is just a friendly reminder. Hold on to your money and use it wisely.  I prefer to use it for products that provide some value rather than a service.
